The Omnipotence of God

“I am the Lord, the God of the whole human race. Nothing is too difficult for Me.” Jeremiah 32:27 GNB

We cannot have a correct conception of God unless we think of Him as Almighty and all-powerful. Someone who cannot do everything he wills and pleases cannot be God.

God’s sovereignty and omnipotence go together. To reign, He must have power; and to reign sovereignly, He must have all power. That’s what OMNIPOTENCE means — having all power.

God can do all things that are consistent with His character. He can bring to pass whatsoever He pleases, whatsoever His infinite wisdom may direct, whatsoever the purity of His will may resolve. Just like Himself, God’s power is infinite, eternal, incomprehensible, and immutable — it cannot be checked, restrained, or obstructed by anything or anyone other than Himself.

“God hath spoken once… Power belongeth unto God.” Psalm 62:11 KJV

GOD HATH SPOKEN ONCE. As kids, our parents would get really mad whenever they would ask me or my siblings to do something, but then we would not follow at once; so they would have to repeat the command until we do whatever they told us to do. I’m sure you can relate to this. 😂

But God… “He hath spoken once.” Once! Behold, God Almighty’s supreme authority — He speaks but once and everything He says and wishes to happen, happens.

POWER BELONGETH UNTO GOD. God’s power is like Himself — self-existent and self-sufficient. It belongs to Him inherently. He does delegate power to His creations, but His is never decreased. Not even an atom of power can ever be taken away from Him. All power belongs to God.

The Immensity of God’s Power

THE DISPLAY OF GOD’s POWER. God has made Himself known to His creations through the revelations He’s made about Himself, as written and recorded in the Holy Scriptures — the Bible. There, we can read a lot of incredible displays of God’s omnipotence. Let’s enumerate some:

1. God’s Power in Creation. Man needs tools and materials to create something; yet to create the heavens, the earth, the living and non-living creatures that are on it and in it, God needed nothing but His words.

2. God’s Power in Preservation. No one has the power to preserve himself, herself, or itself. God preserves all of His creations. Men and animals would die without food and drinks. Plants and trees would wither without some rain and sunshine. Truly, it is God who keeps us alive! (Psalm 66:9a) Everything we need to live is from God. Everything we need to live is God.

3. God’s Power in Judgment. As God’s omnipotence is displayed in delight, it is also displayed in wrath. Remember how God swept out human unrighteousness by causing an enormous worldwide flood during the time of Noah? (Genesis 7) Remember how God unsplit the Red Sea to stop the Egyptians from chasing the Israelites during the time of Moses? (Exodus 14)

God is able to display His mighty power among the unrighteous; not only by causing them to suffer physically, “but also by supernaturally preserving their bodies, as well as souls, amid the eternal burnings of the Lake of Fire.” (A.W. Pink)

THE HIDING OF GOD’S POWER. What we see in the creation, the preservation, and the judgment are only but a little portion of God’s total might. There is so much more to the divine omnipotence than what is seen and revealed. His power is so immense, so inconceivable. Who knows what else is concealed in the works He’s made? Who knows the real intensity of the power hiding in His being?

Our Rightful Response to God’s Power

MAY WE ALL FEAR GOD! Unlike Thanos, the most famous Marvel villain, God doesn’t need some fancy gems and golden gloves to snap us out of the universe. He can cast us out to Hell any moment He pleases! To openly and carelessly defy Someone clothed in omnipotence, Someone who can easily do that, is pure insanity.

Blessed are those whose lives are surrendered to His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, for they surely are spared from the curse of eternal death caused by God’s wrath.

MAY WE ALL ADORE GOD! Such a God having such unspeakable might and power truly deserves the highest form of worship! If we stand in so much awe looking at the wonderful things seen on earth and from earth, how much more should we adore the One who has created them all?

MAY WE ALL TRUST GOD! God possesses absolute power; therefore, nothing is too difficult for Him. He can do anything easily more than anyone or anything else. He does things without effort.

As we put our trust and confidence in God, we believe — there is no prayer too hard for Him to answer; no need too great for Him to supply; no misery too deep for Him to relieve; no temptation too powerful for Him to deliver; and no sin too wretched for Him to forgive. ❤️

“Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us — to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 HCSB

I love this!!! “As we put our trust and confidence in God, we believe — there is no prayer too hard for Him to answer; no need too great for Him to supply; no misery too deep for Him to relieve; no temptation too powerful for Him to deliver; and no sin too wretched for Him to forgive. ❤️” Truly Our GOD is OMNIPOTENT!

  2. Yes I can relate haha whenever my parents are asking me to do a certain thing, they will always repeat it until I do it despite that I am doing something haha. Thank you for always sharing good news to us! I love your blog, it deserves to be featured on othe websites!

  3. No one can defy god because he is all powerfull. Does that mean that we should fear god or trust him because of that?

  5. True. God being the most powerful of all only has to speak once and everyone will. Even if teachers or parents speak once, they aren’t that powerful because often time we don’t follow their command easily.

  6. This is a good read. I just wish that this adoration to God’s omnipotence is relatable to those who are continuously suffering in misery and abuse… that they too will experience and feel God’s omnipotence.
